Vickis started life in the sitting room of No. 79 Windsor Road Chobham, in August 1953. The first picture shows the original owner Mrs. Audrey Taylor and her daughter Vicki, from whom the shop takes its name, standing in the doorway of the shop.
Success came early and this enabled Audrey to purchase No. 81 next door, doubling the shop floor area.
In 1966 a lay-by, car park and extension to the right hand side of the building saw the beginnings of Vickis Wine Merchants.
Audrey sold the business to her son Paul in April 1987.
Within the first two years of business Paul had refurbished the grocery store, this saw a steady rise in sales, which allowed him to concentrate on the Wine and Spirits side of the business.
Later in 1995 Paul separated the business into two separate divisions, Vickis for the grocery, tobacco and news etc and Vickis Wine Merchants.
Paul's vision paid dividends in 1997 & again in 2005 when Vickis Wine Merchants won the Booker Prize for Excellence Award for the Best Off License of the year.
